Place and Time

Registration:  Waterloo and invited participants please register on-line by September 23.

Contest dates:  Saturday September 24 and Sunday October 2, 2011

Place:  Math & Computer Building, room MC 3004

Timetable:

 
      10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.  Sign-in and account setup  (room to be announced)
                               Establishment of telnet remote access for
                               pre-arranged out-of-town entrants.
 
      11:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.  Practice contest
 
         - lunch break -
 
      1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.    Contest
 
      4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.    Free pizza; discussion of problems; announcement
                               of results.

Live standings

Waterloo's local Programming Contests are held every term, and conducted according to ACM Rules with the following variances:

• each entrant is a single individual, rather than a team of three
• each contest is 3 hours long, rather than 5
• there are 5 questions, rather than "between 6 and 8 questions"

Contest Documentation and Help

Contestants use a restricted command-line interface to compile, test, and submit programs. Local participants are expected to use the terminals in MC 3004.

Available editors are gedit, vim, and emacs.

Available programming languages are Scheme, C, C++, Java, and Pascal.

You are allowed to bring notes and books. Bring a book for the programming language and editor you plan to use. Books on algorithms and geometry may come in handy.

Using Scheme to solve contest problems. The contest environment uses mzscheme.

You are not allowed any electronic aids like calculators or the Web.
